Penn State Harrisburg invites applications for an academic administrative leader with collaborative and creative vision to advance its School of Humanities during this sustained period of growth. The preferred candidate will possess an earned doctorate or equivalent, demonstrate outstanding scholarly research in, or closely related to, a discipline represented within the School; exceptional financial acumen; significant and proven experience in academic leadership in an interdisciplinary unit; a record of excellence in teaching; appreciation for the changing landscape of student expectations to integrate programs with current appeal with those that form the foundation for the undergraduate and graduate humanities curriculum. The School seeks an administrator with an inspiring vision of the humanities and its role in contemporary education and society with a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusion; established accomplishment in acquiring external funding; understanding of the complexities of a multi-campus, land-grant university; and, a successful record of faculty development, including relevant and proven experience with, and responsibility for, the promotion and tenure process for an academic unit. The successful candidate will have a record of achievement that qualifies them for appointment as a full professor with tenure in the College. Preferred starting date is July 1, 2017. The School of Humanities has two thriving residential centers: The Center for Pennsylvania Culture Studies and the Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies as well as the Eastern American Studies Association (EASA) which is a regional chapter of the American Studies Association. The School of Humanities offers undergraduate majors in American Studies, Communications, English (Secondary Education-English option), and Humanities. Graduate programs include Master’s degrees in American Studies, Communications, and Humanities and the Ph.D. in American Studies. The School has more than 40 full-time faculty and delivers general education requirements/electives to students enrolled in all five academic Schools. The College is easily accessible from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and New York. Penn State Harrisburg is located in Middletown, near the state capital of Harrisburg. The College’s enrollment of 5000 provides a mixture of traditional and nontraditional, full-time and part-time, resident and commuter, and domestic and international students. The College offers baccalaureate degrees in 37 academic majors, 27 master’s programs, and 3 doctoral programs.
