AFS session on "Multilingual Folklore" at the 2022 MLA Convention

 

 

AFS@MLA (American Folklore Society @ Modern Language Association) seeks paper proposals for a session on "Multilingual Folklore" at the next Modern Language Association Convention (9-12 January 2022) in Washington, D.C. The theme for the 2022 MLA Convention is “Multilingual U.S.”.

 

Invited are papers that highlight the linguistic diversity—both literal and metaphorical—of folk groups in the United States. For instance, how does multilingualism enhance the practices and/or expressions of the folk groups we study? Or, how are folklorists working to promote and/or revitalize multilingualism across civic and cultural spaces? Proposals that cross disciplinary boundaries are strongly encouraged.

 

Because this is a session sponsored by the American Folklore Society, organizers give priority to proposals submitted by AFS members. Send a 300-word abstract and one-page CV to Jim Deutsch, deutschj@si.edu, by 18 March 2021.
