One day colloquium: Centre for the History of Childhood with the National Trust Partnership, Oxford University
This colloquium will take place in Oxford and online on Friday 1st July 2022.
We welcome papers that consider the theme of ‘Children and Heritage’ from a wide variety of perspectives. Areas that papers might explore include:
- Children’s interactions with history in the past;
- Young people’s engagement with heritage today;
- The inclusion of children’s voices and lives within historic spaces and exhibitions;
- Historic collections related to children’s lives and experiences.
We welcome papers from any disciplinary or professional background and career stage, as the colloquium aims to foster collaboration between academics and museum and heritage professionals. The programme will feature a keynote paper from Caro Howell, Director of the Foundling Museum in addition to a panel of mini-presentations to enable participants (including advanced undergraduate and graduate students) to share research that is at an early stage.
We hope that all participants will place the experiences and perspectives of children and young people at the heart of their analysis. We also encourage submissions that consider intersectional identities including, but not limited to, class, race, disability, and gender.
Please send abstracts of 250-500 words and a brief bio to sian.pooley@magd.ox.ac.uk by midday on Monday 28th February 2022. We plan to offer in-person and online participation therefore please indicate your preference, if any, when submitting.
