The Panel on Planetary Thinking invites applications for the second round of a fellowship program (2022-2025) which explores what it means that we do not simply live ‘on’, but are part of an ever-changing planet. In 2023, two pairs of artists & scholars will be exploring Planetary Spaces in and through collaborative projects. Throughout their fully funded, three months residency at the Justus Liebig University (JLU), Giessen, fellows gain the unique opportunity to conduct research, create artworks, and engage in transdisciplinary dialogues between the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and the arts. Currently, the first round of fellows are working on the overarching theme of Planetary Materials, ranging from tangible wood and tree rings to vibration as a planetary trans-material and social sculpture.

In 2023, two fellowships are awarded from April to June, and two others from September to November.  Fellows will be granted a monthly stipend of 5,000 euros/month and are provided with newly renovated and furnished studios and office spaces inside of Giessen’s most charismatic, old-style buildings. They are expected to design a workshop, masterclass, or alternatively formatted event, depending on their individual, scholarly and/or artistic subject matters – creativity is strongly encouraged!

Deadline to apply for this second round is September 1st, 2022. For more information on the program as well as the application process, please see  our website.

We are greatly looking forward to reading your applications!
