winter 2012 -13 Course: Societies and Cultures of mountainous areas in Thessaly and Epirus regions

Summary

This course is intended to focus on the societies and cultures of eastern Pindos range exploring both their historic route and contemporary situation. This mountainous area is interconnected with the  plains of Thessaly region. So any attempt for a researcher to understand and study the whole society inevitably drives him/her to the Pindos range.

    The main axes of the course are:

§        Myth, history and space

§        Economy(cattle-raising , handicraft, trade).

§        Feasts and Rituals

§        Transhumance

§        Immigration

§        Cultural identities and populations

§        Cultural Associations

§        Internet and new representations

§        Ecology and tourism
