summer intake: “Folkloristics and Applied Heritage Studies” MA programme in Tartu

Dear Colleagues,
Please help us spread the word! The University of Tartu (UT) is accepting applications for the new English-language master’s programme, “Folkloristics and Applied Heritage Studies”. The application deadline for fall semester 2017 is 29 June 2017. This summer intake is open for EU/EEA nationals, i.e. citizens of countries that are in the European Union or in the European Economic Area.
“Folkloristics and Applied Heritage Studies” is a two-year programme intended for graduates and professionals interested in the concepts and workings of cultural heritage, folklore and the heritage of crafts in diverse socio-cultural contexts, past and present.
The programme provides analytical and practical tools to examine the processes of heritage production, the particularity of intangible cultural heritage and its relationship to folklore and everyday culture. Students also learn to recognise and ethically apply cultural heritage as a social and economic resource and to act as mediators between different interest groups in this field.
Students choose to specialise either in the analysis of folklore and cultural heritage, or in the study and application of the heritage of crafts.
The curriculum provides ample opportunity to gain diverse hands-on experience and to tailor the content of study plans to chosen career paths. An MA thesis or a more practically oriented MA project completes the programme.
“Folkloristics and Applied Heritage Studies” is coordinated by the UT Departments of Ethnology, and Estonian and Comparative Folklore, and the UT Viljandi Culture Academy Native Crafts Departments.
For more information about the programme, admission requirements and the application process, please visit http://www.ut.ee/folkheritage/, or email us at folkandheritage@ut.ee
Thank you and best wishes!
