Continuity, Folk Studies, and National Identity in Greece

Monday, December 1st, 2008 – 2:30 p.m.
AC 207, Anderson Classes, Anderson Hall, Temple University

Folk studies in Greece have played
a role both in the creation of the Greek national state and in the shaping of the Greek identity.
The theory of continuity is a key
concept for understanding these processes.

Dr.  Evangelos  G.  Avdikos,
Professor of the Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology at the University of Thessaly, Greece, researches cultural identities, narratives, oral history and memory, and the supernatural. He has conducted fieldwork with both Rom children and refugees from the former Soviet Union.

     Refreshments will be served.
