African folklore dataset



*H-Folk’s mission is to encourage scholarly conversations in the fields of folklore and ethnology, even when the network is not directly involved in a debate. We welcome and encourage productive discussion and critical engagement with the material posted on H-Folk, provided they meet the content guidelines of the network.

The Princeton Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Egyptian Miracles of Mary (PEMM) project has been subject to objection from Ethiopian and other concerned scholars. An open letter detailing these concerns is available at

Princeton University has defended the project but folklorists and others intending to follow up on the request for research involvement should be aware of the issues.
