H-Net: An Accessible Resource for Many in a Critical Time of Need

 

When I first joined H-Net several years ago, I had no idea how significant a role it would come to play in my life. Many of you know H-Net as a go-to place to read book reviews, peruse job announcements, and find conferences. H-Net is that, but it is also so much more. Back in 2018, when we launched H-Ukraine, our team humbly hoped to contribute to Ukrainian Studies in some small way. We grew over the years, hosting interviews with scholars and asking those doing fieldwork to write blog posts about their experience. These were our attempts to highlight Ukraine-focused work.

However, February 24^th, 2022 changed everything. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, H-Ukraine transformed into a hub of emergency resources for Ukrainian scholars who needed academic appointments outside of their country. We were able to direct many displaced individuals to H-Net to help them look for opportunities. As a site that does not hide behind a paywall and is totally free to use, H-Net became an accessible resource for many in a critical time of need.
