H-Net's new peer-reviewed Journal of Festive Studies from H-Celebration, part of new H-Net Journals service

H-Net is proud to announce the launch of the new open access, peer-reviewed Journal of Festive Studies from H-CelebrationJFS is the inaugural journal published under the banner of H-Net Journals, a new service that facilitates the publication of open access, peer-reviewed content on H-Net.
Journal of Festive Studies is an open access, peer-reviewed title publishing new research from all fields interested in festivities, including holiday celebrations, family rituals, carnivals, religious feasts, processions and parades, civic commemorations, and more. The first issue offers articles, state of the field essays, and reviews that consider a wide range of approaches to festivity. As the editors write in their introduction to the volume, the contributors "consider some of the methods and theories that scholars have relied on to apprehend festive practices across the world, the specific contributions of disciplines or areas of study touching on festivity, the methodological issues faced by scholars doing qualitative research on festivities across the globe, or analyses of specific festive occasions."
The journal is co-edited by Ellen Litwicki (Professor of History, SUNY Fredonia) and Aurélie Godet (Associate Professor of American Studies, Paris Diderot University) and backed by an editorial board of internationally recognized scholars in diverse fields of the humanities and social sciences, including cultural anthropology, sociology, history, management, folklore and popular culture, and Spanish and Portuguese.
We also wish to thank Managing Editor Cora Gaebel (University of Cologne) for her tireless work in managing the journal's peer review process, and H-Celebration lead editor Réa de Matas for her compelling graphic design work on the journal layout and visual identity.
Journal of Festive Studies will be published twice per year and accepts submissions on a rolling basis. A special issue on “The Politics of Carnival” is scheduled for Fall 2019.
The first issue of Journal of Festive Studies is available to read online. For more information or to submit, please visit https://journals.h-net.org/jfs.
